Abstract
It is an animation music video that plays with the music beats through visual elements, and to reveal the complicated emotions towards the meaning of death.
Description
“What is death?” I believed most of the people had come across this question once in their life. During the days recently, with a bunch of big events happening all over the world, I started to keep thinking about this question again and again.
The world is just like an hourglass, it continues repeating over and over again. People are born to be dead, the world is formed to be collapsed. which is the theory “Eternal recurrence” that had been discussed by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.
“Everything you see, everyone you meet, it is connected in one big unseen flow, but it is bigger than that, it’s the entire world, the entire universe even. And compared to something like that, we are just a very small part of the universe. If we put together all those ones, we get one great all. You have to understand that flow, deconstruct it and reconstruct it. It is also referred to as living. We, the ‘one’ has to die to become nutrients to the new start. So technically, Life needs death, and death needs life.” (The definition of “One is all, All is one”)
Things that happened are meant to have happened. We are not going to stop the flow, we couldn’t, we can’t. We can just get into the flow, accept it, and to find our own meaning inside.
Through this project, I tried to demonstrate this abstract concept that keeps wandering in my mind these days with music and visual elements. It was a great way to integrate my muddy thoughts, and it was a means of catharsis for me.
Artist Statement
In my whole 4 years of university studies in Creative Media, I kept searching for what I really want in my university life. As the university allows students to try on different fields of media, I have got a lot of directions. I kept trying to understand myself, to think about what I am truly passionate about.
While completing this animation project, through researching and attempting, I had discovered the style that I like and the excitement in creating moving images. I eventually found a path that I would love to walk along. I hope I can keep on working in motion design, animation in the future. There is still a long way to go and lots of room to improve. This project indicates the end of my study in the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, it also implies a brand new start.
