Abstract
Dark Fairy Tale is a 3D role play game with minor puzzle adventure factor. The story background is inspired by classic fairytale – sleeping beauty. Instead of traditional story ends with handsome prince rescuing cursed princess, we narrated the tale in a more realistic and profound characteristic version. Despite that, our team made use of 3D environment to apply detective elements, enabling player to read the surrounding and bindings between them. Last but not least, drawing, which stands for casting spell, enhanced the interaction variation on computer role-play game.

Artist Statement
Fairy tales are stories that are designed to satisfy children’s beautiful imagination of the world. In the common fairy tale “Grimm’s fairy tales”, the enviable love story of Prince and Princess runs through the whole book, and the retribution of good and evil is also the final ending of each story. And today, fairy tales have become the childhood memories of many people. People believe that fairy tales can give children their hope for the future and learning opportunities. What they did not know was that fairy tales were rejected by the society in the 1970s because the content of the story was too realistic and dark.
We feel that the fairy tale in which the content has been modified to allow children to read is too beautiful to meet reality, and there is a feeling of escaping from reality. Therefore, we want to modify the fairy tale world through realism to express the real world. We have also adapted the happy ending or struggle process of fairy tales, with an open game world that has no fixed plot allows players to trigger events and endings through their choices, which is also closer to the situation when they face choices in real life.
