Abstract

M.A.V.I.S stands for Multi-purpose Arduino + raspberry-pi Virtual reality Interactive Skeleton. The goal is to create an Arduino and Raspberry-Pi powered, 3d printed robot skeleton that is controlled through a VR application and headset (Oculus Quest by Oculus, Facebook); and can be easily redesigned, improved and repaired under different use cases.

Because of its nature, M.A.V.I.S can be redesigned for different use cases with the right extension. For example, affordable STEM tool for school, 5G low latency long-distance interactive device, AI automatic robot frame for tasks, etc.

M.A.V.I.S stands for Multi-purpose Arduino + raspberry-pi Virtual reality Interactive Skeleton. The goal is to create an Arduino and Raspberry-Pi powered, 3d printed robot skeleton that is controlled through a VR application and headset (Oculus Quest by Oculus, Facebook); and can be easily redesigned, improved and repaired under different use cases.

Because of its nature, M.A.V.I.S can be redesigned for different use cases with the right extension. For example, affordable STEM tool for school, 5G low latency long-distance interactive device, AI automatic robot frame for tasks, etc.

For the development of the current project, M.A.V.I.S will be focusing on its entertainment and educational aspect before exploding its possibilities for businesses as hobbyists and students are more forgiving on immature products.

Even though M.A.V.I.S might not be the first fighting bot, it is the first of its kind, a fighting bot with arms control that is controlled using an Oculus Quest headset. One key objective of M.A.V.I.S is to be as cost-effective as possible. So when comparing the cost of M.A.V.I.S to other fighting bots on the market, M.A.V.I.S stands out with its lower price tag and more flexible modification path.

Artist Statement

M.A.V.I.S explores the possibilities of interacting with the real world inside Virtual Reality, the plan is to create an open-source project that could hopefully give back to the society, it is also fulfilling my childhood dream and maybe the dreams of many, controlling a real-life robot inside a cockpit.

M.A.V.I.S is also the combination and result of the things that I have learnt in the 4 years of studying in BSC, a mixture of CS and CM knowledge, that led to the creation of an uncommon CM final year project.
