Abstract

A film about how an ethnic minority man tackles the minority issues in Hong Kong for the quest of finding a decent job in a deteriorating environment which eventually detaches him from the society making him vulnerable to connections of the triad.

Artist Statement

Set in the current time Hong Kong, the film depicts problems of the ethnic minority community. It mainly focuses on the aspects of the job, language barrier, and social exclusion, key factors that have long been leveraged by organised crime as an influence to the South Asain community. It touches on the topic of new generation of EM trying to break the boundaries of previously set standards and stereotypes yet they still fall into the same pits of systematic racial profiling.

In my film, such situation eventually creates a character arch. A fictionalised freshly graduate Ethnic minority man is contested by the duality of man. He is slowly manifesting himself as a social reject a product of social outcast. The film is highly influenced by notable blockbusters like Taxi Driver, Scarface, and The Joker. All films structured on points of menacing society, internal struggle and existentialism, and the duality of man. Based on real events and stories but added with fictional elements.
